Solar Panels
At Bill Jackson's Shop for Adventure we strive to protect our outdoor adventure playground. In October of 2009 we set out to replace natural gas as our primary heat source for our indoor 100,000 gallon pool. The end result is a 1,400 square foot panel array with a total thermal output of 100,000 BTUs.
There are 2 sensors that communicate with the control box. The first one tells the controller the temperature of the pool, The second one tells the contoller the temperature of the panels. When the pool temperature falls below 87 degrees AND the temperature of the panels is above the pool temperature the controller will open a valve and start a pump that will send pool water up to the roof and through the array. We have seen 89 degree water coming through the array when the air temperature has been in the mid 50s,
The project took 2 days to complete from start to first activation and since then we have seen a severe reduction in the amount of natural gas use by as much as 2/3rds normal usage,
